2025 LSN PSAT/NMSQT
What is the PSAT/NMSQT?
The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test conducted by College Board. It is used to identify academically gifted candidates for scholarship opportunities through the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT does not play a direct role in college admissions but can help students practice for future admissions tests, particularly the SAT.
Who should take the PSAT?
Any sophomore or junior can take the PSAT. The test is highly recommended for students who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or who are exceptional standardized test-takers--in the top 10% of their class and/or who have scored a 26 or higher on a pre- or practice ACT test.
- Juniors who choose to take the PSAT and score in approximately the top 5% can enter the National Merit competition and may be eligible for scholarships based on their score as well as other evidence of their academic abilities, skills, and accomplishments.
- Sophomores planning to take the test their junior year are encouraged to take the test as practice. Sophomores who wish to be considered for the Missouri Scholars Academy can also use the PSAT as their qualifying standardized test score.
When is the PSAT?
The PSAT will be given on Thursday, October 16 at LSN during the school day.
How do I sign up?
Students need to sign up and pay for the PSAT test itself in the Guidance Office no later than Wednesday. September 17.
How much does the test cost?
The cost of the test is $18. Students can pay using cash or check. Checks should be made out to Lee’s Summit North High School. Fee assistance is available for LSN students who qualify for free and reduced lunch; speak with the Guidance Office for details.
Is there a prep class?
Yes! Any sophomore or junior student who wants help preparing for the PSAT can enroll in the prep class. There are both in-person and online options available.
How much is the prep class?
The cost for the prep course is $25. Students may pay for the test and/or the prep course in Guidance using cash or check. Checks should be made out to Lee’s Summit North High School. Fee assistance is available for LSN students who qualify for free and reduced lunch; speak with the Guidance Office for details.
How do I sign up for the prep class?
You can sign up for the prep course by completing the PSAT Prep Class Sign-Up Form. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, September 17.
When and where will the prep class be held?
The prep course has both online and in-person options. Self-paced online learning materials and practice will be available on Schoology beginning on Tuesday, September 23. Students who sign up for the prep class will receive an email on Monday, September 22, with information about how to join the Schoology class.
In-person sessions for students who want to learn about testing strategies and take a practice test in a classroom environment are listed below. Workbooks for everyone who has paid for the prep course will be given out on Monday, September 22. Students who do NOT plan to attend the first in-person prep class session will need to pick up their PSAT Prep book in the Guidance Office starting on Tuesday, September 23.

What workbook will be used in the prep class?
We will be using The Princeton Review’s PSAT/NMSQT Prep 2025. Links to additional resources will be available in the Schoology course. *Note: If you took the prep class last year, this edition of the book is almost identical, but you may not be able to access the online resources without purchasing the new edition.
